Which is better spotify or apple music6/12/2023 It’s early days and some of the tracks I’ve listened to have varied in quality and haven’t always sounded better than a good stereo mix. I’ll wait to see how things play out in the long run. As for Dolby Atmos & Spatial Audio, good old stereo listening has served me well for decades. To my older ears I expect I’ll be equally happy with this quality when it becomes available in comparison to the Apple Lossless offering. This is not the case with Spotify Connect since the music is streaming directly from their servers to the Sonos system. You can come and go with your phone but the music will keep playing.Īs for audio quality, Spotify will soon launch the HiFi tier that was announced earlier this year. If you start a stream and your phone then goes out of range of your wifi signal (when you go out to the garage or backyard etc.) the music stops. With Apple AirPlay the audio travels from their servers via the phone to the Sonos speakers. The phone app is still used as a remote control but that’s it. Spotify Connect takes over the stream of the audio directly from the Spotify servers to the Sonos speakers. In my use case I find Spotify Connect more functional that Apple’s AirPlay for one simple reason. The difference is in the way Spotify does the audio handoff to the Sonos system. This means I use either Apple AirPlay or Spotify Connect to hand off the audio to the Sonos speakers from each dedicated app. I have some observations and preferences based on my comparison.įirstly, I tend to stay within the dedicated music apps and generally don’t use the Sonos app to browse and control my music listening. Since switching from Android back to iOS I have gone back and forth between Spotify and Apple Music over the last few months. I recently switched back to using Apple products but am a long time Sonos user.
